Open Bible Standard Churches originated from two separate organizations that had roots originally in the Azusa Street revivals in Los Angeles, California in 1906: Bible Standard Conference was founded in Eugene, Oregon, under the leadership of Fred Hornshuh in 1919. The Open Bible Evangelistic Associationwas founded in Des Moines, Iowa, under the leadership of John R. Richey in 1932. These two organizations joined together in 1935, as "Open Bible Standard Churches" with headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. Two other denominations that came out of the Azusa Street Mission revival were Assembly of God and Foursquare. Our denomination has recently changed its name to Open Bible Churches. We believe the Holy Spirit is for today and all ages and that people's lives are changed when they allow God to rule in their spirits.
